History

Sundridge Park Manor celebrates a long and distinguished history and has hosted royal guests for centuries.  The Sundridge Park Estate dates back to 1254AC, the time of the Black Prince.

Humphrey Repton a landscape architect of repute first recognised the potential of the estate as an imposing family seat for the Scott family and made preliminary plans for the building and surrounding area.

The grand Manor House was borne from John Nash designs the appointed architect and a favorite of the Prince Regent.  Repton and Nash worked in collaboration to provide the owners with a magnificent new Manor offering picturesque vistas over the valley.

The architecture within the Manor is an excellent example of the classical revival favored at the time which looked to Rome for its design forms, Corinthian columns, domes, pediments and plain stucco walls.

In the 1870’s Samuel Watt influenced many of the stunning interior features including the Kings Room's elaborate gilded plaster work, so named when used as the sitting room for the Prince of Wales who later became Edward the Seventh and Napoleon III of France and his wife Eugene.

The Billiard Room, Prince Regent Ballroom, John Nash Lounge and Garden Room all benefit from original fireplaces, ornate plaster work and great views of the gardens.
